Checking off places to visit off your bucket list is just extraordinary. For so long, I have watch The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and a multitude of different supernatural shows; and they all had one thing in common: New Orleans. As much as I am scared of ghost, and supernatural events, I was still interested in New Orleans and its “Magic”. Unfortunately when we got there, because of Covid-19, a big amount of events had to be canceled or postponed until next year. My husband and I were not sadden by it, we were just happy to take some time to visit the location and enjoy the food and energy that makes New Orleans a touristic city.

Yes we are foodies 😅 !

Where to eat?

  • Acme Oyster House

Located in the French Quarter, Acme was the first place we decided to try. They were no line, and we got seated almost immediately. The menu had a lot of options including oysters and entrees. We decided to try the Chargrilled Oysters (Sizzling, chargrilled oysters saturated in an herb butter sauce, topped with a special blend of cheese.) as an appetizer. OMG ! It was so delicious. The sauce the oysters came with was just delicious, that we were licking our fingers to keep the flavor in our mouth.

We then ordered some crawfish, fried Alligator and a side of seafood gumbo. The flavors of the gumbo was just amazing and vibrant. All these spices used reminded me of all kind of African sauces I grew up eating.

  • Deanies Seafood

This place was a recommendation from a local. They make amazing Po’Boy ( a traditional sandwich from Louisianna. Any toppings and meat can be added). Located in 2200 Magazine St. in New Orleans, the restaurant is a 30 minutes walk from the French Quarter. The picture below was the Po’boy with fried oysters. Not pictured, but we had a side of Crawfish Etoufee soup.

  • Ruby Slipper Cafe

Brunch is a huge part of the New Orleans culture. My husband and I decided to ditch our “no breakfast” “not” rule, and eat something in the morning. It was definitely a good decision of our part. We walked down the street of our hotel, and found this gem. The food was just delicious. I got the Peacemaker, where I could mix and match any two of their benedicts. I chose the hot smocked salmon and the eggs cochon (pork). My salmon egg benedict was a little on the dry side, but that’s alright because it was still flavorful. The eggs cochon may have been my favorite because of the slow-cooked, apple-braised pork as the filling.

    PS: It is a women-led restaurant 👩🏽‍🦱 👩🏾‍🦱 👩🏻

Food in New Orleans is just delicious and full of history. A mix of Latin, French, European and African cuisine in one location is bound to create an experience that you have never seen or eaten before. I would recommend taking some time off and enjoy this melting pot of cuisine. You will not regret it. We haven’t at least ❤️.
