Molding the Next Generation for Success
I always thought that life after college would have been the “Dream”. I was so happy to make my own money, have my own place, and not have anyone tell me that I have food at home when I am out and about. Yes ! That’s what I thought being an ADULT was. I do not blame the older generation for that idea, but they do have a lot of faults on how the children nowadays perceive life after a degree.
Growing up, my parents made things look so easy: paying rent, paying for school, paying for clothes and bring food to the table. I never really saw the stress on their face when they would get home after a long day. Hey!! I do agree that it is what parents should do. However, after a certain age, the same way we have “The Discussion” about sex, we should have that type of discussion about “Adulting”. Life will not get easier the more you grow up, and money definitely do not grow on trees.
I wanted to grow so fast, I wanted to be independent… But that came at a cost. Making sure that your children understand that “Adulting” is not easy, and full of responsibilities would help them appreciate the teenage years that they have a bit more. Don’t worry, I know that teenagers don’t listen =D , but it is the thought and effort that count.
But to you that have a younger sister or brother, explain to them what they may go through growing up and being on their own… Because that’s what I always wanted someone to tell me, or guide me through. I wanted people to explain what will happen after College, after getting that degree that everyone talks about.
I’m now at this stage of life where I know that life will get harder and harder. That responsibilities are only going to multiply. But at least with the support of my Family and Friends, I know that I’m up to the challenge.
